PayPal only includes a phone number when the buyer shares one with you, so some orders can’t be texted. Those are skipped and listed in your activity log. If phone numbers matter, collect them on your own checkout and use a custom webhook.

Setup

Live in four steps

  1. Get your PayPal keys

    Log in at developer.paypal.com with your PayPal business account, create an app under Apps & Credentials and copy its Client ID and Secret.

  2. Connect

    In your KiwiTxt portal open Tools, add PayPal, paste both keys and click Connect PayPal.

  3. KiwiTxt does the rest

    KiwiTxt creates the webhook on your PayPal app and turns on verification, so every event is confirmed with PayPal.

  4. Choose the texts

    Switch on the events you want, tweak the wording, and send yourself a test.

PayPal retries deliveries; each event texts at most once.

Local numbers fixed

PayPal sends the number without a country code. KiwiTxt adds it from the buyer’s country.

PayPal questions

Why didn’t a PayPal buyer get a text?

Most often PayPal didn’t include a phone number for that buyer. Your activity log shows exactly why each event was skipped.

Is it safe to paste my PayPal keys?

KiwiTxt uses them only to set up and check the webhook for your texts. They are stored encrypted, never shown again, and Disconnect removes them and the webhook.

I use PayPal through WooCommerce.

Then use our free WooCommerce plugin instead. It texts for every payment method, PayPal included, with no keys to copy.

Does it work with PayPal sandbox?

Yes. Tick “sandbox keys” when you paste keys from a sandbox app.
